Prime time in book making

Many big and beautifully decorated manuscripts written in the fourteenth century are preserved. Among those are the Kings‘ Sagas (46 manuscripts and manuscript-parts), Sagas of Icelanders (23 manuscripts and parts of manuscripts), annuals and stories of holy men (13 manuscripts and parts), stories of knights and legendary sagas (14 manuscripts and parts) and most of the main manuscripts containing Snorri Sturluson‘s Edda.

The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies preserves the manuscripts.

The Árni Magnússon Manuscript Collection was added to the UNESCO Memory of the World, Register in 2009.
