The Monastey of Viðey established

The Monastery of Viðey was an important educational and cultural institution, with an extensive collection of manuscripts. Among the chroniclers in Viðey was priori Styrmir Kárason, a former priest in Snorri Sturluson‘s homestead Reykholt. He is believed to have documented a version of Landnáma, now lost, and the King‘s saga of Ólafur helgi, which a few chapters of have been preserved in Flateyjarbók.
