The boy Sigmar lives in the countryside with Björg and Ágúst, a childless couple, and he is experiencing some strange sentiments. One day he grabs the wooden squirrel he has been carving and he himself becomes a squirrel. Næturluktin is a sequel to Elíassons first novel Gangandi íkorni (A Walking Squirrel) which was published in 1987.
